Sea scouts have a blast at Kai Iwi

-

The Doubtless Bay Sea Scouts crew excelled at the annual Scouts Regatta which took place at Kai Iwi Lakes earlier this month.

A field of 19 groups representing various land and sea scouting factions from as far south as Hamilton to as far north as Doubtless Bay attended the annual regatta, which was hosted by the Whangarei-based Shackleton’s Sea Scouts from Friday to Saturday, March 2-4.

The event saw each team — featuring between four and five youth aged from 11 to 13 competing in the juniors, and 14-16 in the intermediates — competing in sailing, rowing kayaking, iron man and campcraft competitions.

The Doubtless Bay group won overall prize for campcraft (based on tidiness and orderliness of campsite), and placed third in both the open kayaks and junior iron man sections.

A spokesman from the Far North club noted the regatta was a huge amount of fun and everyone had a blast. On behalf of the club, thanks went to the sponsors for their support and help with fuel costs and trailer hire etc.
