Champions crowned at Houhora
The Houhora Bowling Club began its results round up for the summer season with the domestic championship title winners who were, men’s singles: Barrie Kinnear, pairs: B Kinnear and Brian Bellas, triples: B Bellas, Russell Hockley and Douglas Mansill, and, fours: Mike Housham, B Kinnear, Roger Leef and Tony Mirando; and ladies singles: Christine Stratton (beating Joanne Milich).
In other news, results from the Cowley’s Hire (any combination fours) played in early February were, Cedric Campbell, Paul and Linda Fowlie and Joanne Milich. 4 wins 25 ends and 52 points, 1; Tupu Campbell, Paul Huxtable, Cabby Campbell and Donny Holmes 4, 21, 51, 2; Kevin Briscoe, Bill Clode, Chester and Rose Timoko 3.5, 19, n/a, 3. Organisers thanked the event’s major sponsors for their ongoing support.
In much more belated results, the winners of the annual twilight bowls social competition last December were Mary Ashby, Ivy Wiki and Mike Vujcich. Keen rivalry and camaraderie between competitors made for a fun competition and one likely to be repeated next year.
Elsewhere, the winners of the Christmas Fare any combination triples event were Kenny Mokaraka, Rose Timoko and Marge Milich, runners-up were Dennis Latimer, Mary Ashby and Christine Stratton, with Faye Malamatenious, Terry Mullane and Diane Brake third.

The end of season closing day tournament is set to take place on Monday, April 9, as an any combination triples affair.
