Parking 101: Never listen to Da Boss

-

Several Kaitaia indoor bowling enthusiasts stood out in the performance by the Presidents selection team (16 players made up of teams of four from each region) which took on the Northland rep squad in Whangarei on Sunday, April 1.

Although the Northland side eventually came out marginally on top, the team from the Presidents selection boasting the most points was the Far North one featuring Stephen Yuretich, Lynne Pooley, Helen Fisher and Steve Joyce. The latter noted Fisher and Pooley achieved maximum points, scoring all wins and the only players to achieve that. And then launched into one of his typically rambling monologues about a completely unrelated incident.

“Now it has to be said that our illustrious president, ‘Da Boss’, may be a pretty good bowler but he would not rate as a parking warden. A couple of weeks ago Da Boss organised myself and Russell Martin to meet him at the Kirtland’s farm on Takahue road where we could both leave our cars and all go to Whangarei in his car.

“When we arrived he told us where to park and we took off but when we returned that evening a very upset Mrs Kirtland read Russell and myself the riot act for parking in ‘really stupid’ places. She was not a happy lady and really gave it to us — quite deservedly I must say. While Russell and I were receiving our medicine, Da Boss stood in the background fairly quietly and when I dared look at him I’m sure he had a sneaky grin on his face!?” **** Elsewhere, Joyce noted the 2018 Far North Indoor Bowling Association season is now under way and reminded readers that local clubs were always on the look out for new members of any age.

“Indoor bowling is a very sociable sport for all ages and is a lot of fun for the participants so if you are at all interested or know someone who is, get in touch with your local club.”

The Dalmatian club in Kaitaia (contact Stephen Yuretich, phone 409-2141) has already started it season as has the Karikari club (Steve Joyce 406-1484) in Whatuwhiwhi, while the Waiharara (Joe Milich 406-8837) and Mangonui (Mike Pooley 406-0170) clubs were set to start after Easter.
