Blooms thankfully arrive for show
The St John Hall at Cooper’s Beach was a blaze of colour when the Mangonui Garden Club staged its second annual flower show.
Given the wind and rain of the previous few weeks, the club was relieved to see the entries arriving.
Judges Lynn Hill, Chrissie Silva and Carol De La Rue delivered the following results. Roses: full bloom — Jennifer Knight 1, Chris O’Connor 2, Fiona Foote 3. Scented — Jan Parker 1. Miniature — Annette Stanford 1, Chris O’Connor 2, Fiona Foote 3. Vase — Jan Parker 3.

The club was grateful to its sponsors, and to Martyn Wells, who photographed the exhibits and prizegiving. He also exhibited some of his work, along with members of the Doubtless Bay Embroiderer’s Guild, who made the show all the more interesting for those who arrived to have a look.
The Mangonui Garden Club meets in the St John hall on the third Wednesday of the month at 1.30pm.
