Another nutter

- Kerikeri MURRAY REID Tuakau JOHN BASSETT Diggers’ Valley

I am one of the nutters who believe Christ was exactly who He said He was. I also believe the man who said, “There ain’t no perfection in this here world.” This would account for many not really taking in and understanding the words of Christ and not following his instructions.

Popes and archbishops, believers and cynics all need to spend more time studying Christ's teachings of love instead of misreading them, especially when criticising others. That includes me.

The famous World War I image should be titled Henderson and his Donkey.

The photo from which the paintings were derived was of Richard Henderson, born in Waihi in 1895. Simpson was an Englishman with the Australians at Gallipoli. He died some weeks before the photo was taken. The Aussies are welcome to him.

I would welcome a small article correcting this commonly held misbelief.

One is of the view from experience that anyone with a gun is in control of any situation, and able to stand off with full control, or shoot only to disarm the offender.

Do we live in a police state? I say yes, and too many lives are being taken in police shootings and police pursuits, making these killings legal, by Acts of Parliament.

Believe me, positions like Minister of Police, Justice, Housing, Health, Welfare, Education, Prime Minister, Ombudsman, Police Conduct Authority and many more titles are only jobs for the boys and girls, nothing to do with love, care, respect or compassion, the very four important things that make families, communities and nations with them united and prosper. Without them we are divided, and everything degenerates, as we are seeing here in New Zealand and worldwide.

There are many true words in the Bible, such as human beings are lovers of themselves, and we should love one another.

Neither can go hand in hand, as the first is negative and destructive, whereas the second is positive and uplifting for the good of mind, body and spirit.

Sadly, the cost of showing a little kindness if far too great for many on this planet.

Praise the Lord for the very few who offer love, hope and faith with their care and compassion.

Remember, a helping hand is of far greater value than a handout, just as a kind word is worth more than an angry, bitter word. PS: The moment the trigger is pulled there can only be two intents. One is to kill, the other to injure, to disable. As disabling is not happening, then the intent can only be killing, so must be regarded as murder, as the person with the weapon was able to back off and yet still remain in control.
