This was a rubbish job
Six team members from The Warehouse in Kaitaia got their hands dirty earlier this week, picking up enough rubbish in North Road to fill eight black bags.
Teresa Petersen, Leanne Beckett, Pikiteroa Moeau, Bryce Blucher, Eleanor Rhodes and Lois Sandle were doing their bit for the Great Community Clean Up, a partnership between The Warehouse and Neighbourly.co.nz, aimed at encouraging people to keep New Zealand clean and green by hosting clean-up events in their neighbourhoods.
Kaitaia store manager Will Smith said while some of the rubbish was “pretty gross,” his staff members had enjoyed getting out and about and doing something for the community.
“The main things we collected were plastic wrappers, bottles, cardboard and cigarette butts, but Leanne also found a $5 note, which we donated to the Parenting Place,” he said.
About a thousand Warehouse employees had been involved in clean-up events, which were a great team-building activity.
“Not only is the Great Community Clean Up about keeping our environment clean and tidy for everyone to enjoy, it’s also about fostering community spirit and connecting with colleagues, friends and neighbours,” he added.
The Warehouse also contributed by giving a $10 gift card to everyone who registered to take part.
