Tales of Nameless horrors

-

Far North Indoor Bowls held a drawn pairs tournament at the Waiharara club last Thursday evening.

With 14 teams, five teams managed to get three wins each. The successful team of Marge Milich and Lyn Pooley took it out on a countback, while runners-up were Clarence (the Black Marlin) Thomas; and He Who Shall Remain Nameless with Steve Joyce and Helen Fisher in third.

It was great to see Councillor Radich in attendance for his first game of the season, warmly shaking people’s hands and kissing babies. The good councillor teamed up with his cousin Sarah Travers and they also managed three wins but narrowly missed out on a prized meat pack on the basis of the countback, while Bertha Yerkovich was successful in winning the vege raffle.

It was also good to see a few new players, including Denise Riceman, noted the aforementioned Nameless One: “We’re hoping she may be able to bring John along. As a talented former first five and indoor cricket bowler these skills should transfer well to the bowling mat.”

Last Sunday saw the Northland Centre One Day event held in Whangarei and attended by a team of 12 from the Far North with Radich Dennis Panther, and Paddy Gleeson in support as non-travelling reserves. Whangarei prevailed, with Bay of Islands second, Far North third and Rodney/ Northern Wairoa fourth. The Far North’s best performers were Ivan Buselich and Sarah Travers with four wins from six games and Stephen Yuretich in the singles with three wins from six games.

Tonight’s session will be hosted by the Karikari Indoor Bowls Club from 7.30pm.
