Flo­ral art’s dainty side well ex­plored

Doubt­less Bay Flo­ral Art Club mem­bers pro­duced colour­ful and dainty de­signs at their Septem­ber gath­er­ing, work­ing to the theme of a mod­ern cas­cade de­sign.

Mar­garet Ay­don won the novice sec­tion, Carol Al­li­son the in­ter­me­di­ate sec­tion with Gael Black sec­ond and Kathy Gra­ham third.

Jen­nifer Sil­cock, the only en­trant in the se­nior sec­tion, was awarded sec­ond; un­for­tu­nately her de­sign hit the floor just be­fore judg­ing, but, with a few tweaks, it was saved.

The bronze sec­tion was won by Dot Sykes, Tina Ewins and Shel­ley Wi­b­lin sec­ond equal, Shar­ron Ni­cholas and Bev Rouse third equal.

A pot-luck lunch was shared to cel­e­brate mem­bers’ spring birthdays.

Mean­while four mem­bers will take part in the North­land De­signer of the Year com­pe­ti­tion (‘Love it Here’) in Whanga¯ rei this month, along­side rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the other North­land clubs.

At this month’s meet­ing (10am at the St John hall, Cooper’s Beach, on Tues­day) mem­bers will be asked to pro­duce a coastal col­lage, can­vas or wall­hang­ing, us­ing col­lected items.
