Kaitaia get sea­son off to strong start

With a new sum­mer sea­son now un­der way, the Kaitaia Cro­quet Club teams have so far been very suc­cess­ful in the var­i­ous re­gional com­pe­ti­tions.

Kaitaia won both sec­tions of the an­nual North­land Cro­quet Day at Doubt­less Bay last Satur­day to claim the Kath­leen Lay­bourn Tro­phy.

There was also a win over arch-ri­vals Kerik­eri in the first round of the as­so­ci­a­tion in­ter­club tournament re­cently, the club’s golf cro­quet ju­niors earned a draw against Kerik­eri a few days later, and the golf cro­quet se­niors won their in­ter­club clash against Maun­gakaramea.

The club is now pre­par­ing for its sea­son’s first ma­jor event, the an­nual Honda Tournament on Fri­day, Oc­to­ber 19.

The Kaitaia Cro­quet Club team of Joe Carter, Drago Yelavich, Shirley Reed and Ge­orge Smith tri­umphed over Maun­gakaramea in a re­cent in­ter­club tournament.
