Representatives from the Houhora Golf Club playing in Northland’s Champion of Champions over the weekend sadly came home emptyhanded having found the Hikurangi hilltop course very challenging; the report from the Far North club noting “a bit more experience on steep and undulating fairways being required” from the local players. Meanwhile, the usual Sunday club competition produced two dead heats firstly with Frank Hurinui and John McIntyre finishing with 68 points nett and Bruce Hall and Lenny Shailes with 69. Elsewhere the 9-hole Wednesday haggle saw Richard Thompson coming home first with 22 stableford followed by Ivor Bates with 18 and Glenys Rogers 17.
