Big four and a fundraiser

Anyone at a loose end this weekend could do worse than get along to watch four T20 cricket matches being played on the one day at Kerikeri High by four teams in provincial reserve grade competitio­n.

The hosting WRMK Kerikeri club (the only side representi­ng Far North in Northland senior cricket) will also be running a fundraiser to help two local boys, Max Hart and Luke Halligan, with the costs involved in touring Melbourne with the Northland Secondary Schoolboys XI next year.

The schedule will see two games played side-by-side in the morning, then another two in the afternoon. The draw is, from round 5 at 10.30am: Kerikeri vs Kamo Reserves, Bream Bay 1st Team vs Duracrete Products City Reserves; from round 6 at 1.30pm: Kerikeri vs Bream Bay, City Reserves vs Kamo Reserves.

Current standings (taking into account week 2 — rounds 3 and 4 — was washed out last Saturday): City Reserves (played 2/ won 2, with a +2.300 net run rate) 6 points, Onerahi Reserves (2/2, +1.678) 6, Kamo High 1st X1 (2/1, +0.125) 3, Maungakara­mea Reserves (2/1, +0.550) 3, Kamo Reserves (2/ 1, -1.875) 3, Bream Bay 1st Team (1/1, +0.400) 3, Tikipunga Tiki Tigers (2/0, -1.125) 0, WRMK Kerikeri (1/0, -1.850) 0, Whangarei Boys High 2nd XI (2/0, -1.700) 0.

Three Kerikeri sides are also playing in Northland junior cricket on Saturday. Their respective fixtures are, home teams first, A grade: Northern Wairoa vs Kerikeri High School at 10.30am; Div 1: City Firecracke­rs vs Kerikeri White at 12.30pm, bye: Kerikeri Blue.
