Te Hiku wins

Kaitaia’s iwi ra­dio sta­tion Te Hiku Me­dia has won the com­mu­nity cat­e­gory at this year’s Ma¯ori Lan­guage Awards (Kia kaha te reo Ma¯ori — May the Ma¯ori lan­guage be strong) with its pro­gramme Ko¯rero Ma¯ori, which helps teach te reo Ma¯ori to com­put­ers. Spark and the Te Aka Ma¯ori Dic­tionary won the supreme award with their free Kupu app, which al­lows users to point their phone at an ob­ject and gen­er­ate the rel­e­vant Ma¯ori word.
