WRMK Kerikeri 92/9 (20 overs) lose to Onerahi Central Reserves 102/10 (20)

After the previous two weeks of play in the Northland Reserve Grade T20 competition ended up being washed out, the WRMK Kerikeri Cricket Club seniors were able to resume the campaign by playing a double-header of games in rounds 8 and 9 of the competition at Kensington Park on Saturday.

Of the first game, a loss, Kerikeri manager Lowell Gundry said Onerahi batted first in a remarkably low scoring affair.

He felt Kerikeri should have won but put the result down to the Keri players struggling to get used to the unfamiliar grass wicket; the first time they’ve played on one this season.

WRMK Kerikeri 142/4 (40) beat Kamo High 121/5 (20)

Swapping back over to the more familiar concrete wicket at Kensington, Kerikeri went on to win their second T20 game of the day relatively comfortably after winning the toss and batting first.

Standout with the bat for Kerikeri (notable for being the only team to represent the Far North in senior provincial competition) was again Luke Halligan with a knock of 55.

Everyone fielded well but Gundry struggled to single out any individuals, instead noting Kamo High’s wickets were evenly shared around.

“It was very hot,” he said of conditions on the day.

Standings were still to be updated as this edition went to press.

■ For Round 9 this Saturday Kerikeri travels to play the Tikipunga Tiki’ Tigers at Kensington (only one game) before the competition takes a break for the holidays.
