The Northland Age

Last push for toy drive

-

Far North charity Bald Angels is aiming to collect 3000 toys, more than double last year’s 1200, with a Christmas present drive that ends on Sunday.

The gifts will be distributed amongst 16 partner organisations working in the field of child poverty in Northland, including the police, Plunket, Women’s Refuge, church and iwi organisations, health and social services, which will then deliver them to families most in need of some Christmas cheer.

Gifts should be unwrapped and suitable for ages birth to 18. Board games, art and craft supplies, balls, frisbees, beach games, swingball sets, hygiene and personal items for teens (such as deodorant, moisturiser, perfume and soap), beach towels and sun hats, secondhand bikes, trikes and scooters, as long as they are in good condition, would all be good choices.

The only gifts the Angels don’t want are things that need power or that use batteries (unless extra batteries are supplied).

Drop-off points include Cafe Cinema, Community Fitness, Aligned Movement and Curves Gym in Kerikeri, Elsewhere Hair Salon and Bay of Islands Computers in Waipapa.

Go to the BaldAngelsKerikeri Facebook page for details of other collection points.
