Would-be robber sent on his way

-

A would-be robber got more — and less — than he bargained for when he demanded cash at the Ohaeawai Dairy on Sunday afternoon.

Sergeant Phil Le Comte said the offender, who had disguised himself, entered the dairy about 2pm and quickly found himself in a scuffle with one of the owners. He fled north on SH1, empty-handed, in a stolen Subaru.

Nothing was taken and no one was injured.

Sergeant Le Comte appealed for sightings of the getaway vehicle, a white 2001 Subaru Legacy, registration EMQ929, which was reported stolen in Onerahi in August. Information should go to the Kerikeri police on (09) 407-9211, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555-111.

The offender was described as aged 20 to 25 years old, slim and about 5 feet 10 inches (178cm) tall. He was wearing gloves, a hoodie and a bandanna across his face.

In June this year a burglar cut through two padlocks, jemmied a door, then cut through another padlock on a security gate inside the dairy before making off with a large amount of stock and three notebooks containing messages and autographs from visitors over the previous 25 years.
