48 contest mixed pairs

A full field of 48 members turned up at the Cooper’s Beach Bowling Club on Wednesday, December 19 to contest the domestic Kevin Hoult Drawn Mixed Pairs tournament.

Players were drawn into 24 teams to play four games of eight ends, with two games being played before a shared lunch supplied by the members. The winners received prizes ranging from hams down to shortbread.

Many thanks to all who assisted on the day, and it was good to see Jack Sharp back after his hip operation.

The top three placegette­rs were, Kyra Rapana and Clive Holt 4 wins, 21 ends, 34 points, 1; Carol Sell and Ken Smith 3, 21, 36, 2; Geoff Laird and Liz Walters 3, 18, 31, 3. Other placegette­rs were, Margaret Wildbore and Doug Robb 4, Jack Hughes and Sue Smith 5, Anne Williamson and Garry Sparnon 6, Pam Roughton and Len Cooke 7, Jim Naylor and Barbara Scahill 8, John Williamson and Patsy Thornton 9, Dave Roughton and Shirley Marr 10, Dennis Lattimer and Val Hall 11, Jean Piesse and Jack Sharp 12; and, good sports: Pat Rayner, John Rapana.

The next tournament at Cooper’s is the Greg Muller Mary Reed Any Combinatio­n Open Triples on Saturday, December 29. The format is mufti, Bowls3Five and players encouraged to bring along any holiday visitors.
