Doubles winners end up saved by the bell
There was a strong field of players contesting the domestic handicap doubles championships at the Kaitaia Croquet Club earlier this month.
Eventual winners Drago Yelavich and Neil Marshall were saved by the bell after Lyn Rupapera and Shirley Reed had to settle for second place being only one hoop short, with George Smith and Ben Rupapera claiming third place.
A report from the event on Wednesday, December 12, noted all games were hotly contested with only a few hoops between winning and losing.
“The sportsmanship and camaraderie between players was excellent and a great day was had by all.”
Thanks went to to Jack Burke for his care and maintenance of the lawns which are running well.
The club now heads into Christmas break mode but will resume activities from next Thursday, January 3 with its Have A Go series. Any novice players interested in finding out more are invited to take themselves — along with a friend — down to the club greens on Matthew Ave any time between 9 and 9.15am on Thursdays and/ or Saturdays.
The report concluded by blessing Age readers with compliments of the season.
