The Far North RSA Bowling Club held its final open tournament of the 2018 programme, the Far North Honda Triples on Saturday, December 22.

Although the weather forecast was for rain, the 16 teams of triples including visitors from Cooper’s Beach, Houhora, Oruru and Takapuna clubs managed to complete three of the four games scheduled before the rain set in.

President Lillian Wells thanked the sponsor and those participat­ing from all these clubs, noting that without either there would be no tournament­s. She also thanked greenkeepe­r Kevin, raffle seller Kath, kitchen staff and match conveners Al Thom and Mike Reddy, and wished everyone a very happy Christmas.

The top placegette­rs were Jean Huxtable, Marty Doak and Kathy Johnson with 3 wins, 17 ends and 21 points, 1; Stef Hildreth, Bill Clode and Lillian Wells 2 (plus a draw), 19, 42, 2; then, Peter Dorreen, Selwyn Hargreaves and Ella Dorreen 2, 19, 36, 3.

The lucky loser chocolates went to Alan Bright and his team of first-year bowlers, Kim Brabant and Sheryl Heteraka

The next open event being hosted by the club is the Northland Age Triples on Wednesday, January 16. Entries to Selwyn Hargreaves (027) 977-9637, via the club website or by putting the team name on the board inside the clubrooms.
