Gymnastics club tumbles into new year
The Kaitaia Gymnastic Club is ready to bounce and tumble into a new year with the 2019 programme of gym classes set to start this coming Monday for term 1. Session times for the coming year are as follows:
PRESCHOOLERS. Tumble Tots for ages 3 to 5 years (circuit-based preschool gymnastics): Tuesdays 12.30pm to 1.30pm with caregivers required to work one-on-one with their preschooler; Playgym for preschoolers, 0 to 5 years: Wednesdays 1pm to 2pm and Thursdays 9.30am to 10.30am; Baby and toddler playgym, 0 to 2 years: Thursdays 10.30am to 11.30am; and, Playgym for home-based and early childhood groups, 0 to 5 years: Thursday 1pm to 2pm.
BEGINNING GYMNASTICS. Kiwi Gymfun, 4-8 years: Wednesdays 3.30pm to 4.30pm; Gymskills, 8 to 12 years: Wednesdays 3.30pm to 4.30pm; Skills and drills, 10 to 16 years: Wednesdays 4.45pm to 5.45pm; Flip and fun, adults: Thursdays 6.30pm to 8pm; Pre-artistic, 4-7 years: girls on Mondays and/ or Thursdays 3.30pm to 4.30pm, with boys on Tuesdays 3.30pm to 4.30pm.
OTHER CLASSES. Tumbling, for gymnasts with a good understanding and prior knowledge of basic gymnastics skills: Tuesdays (prospective gymnasts for this club asked to contact the club to make arrangements); Artist-competitive: girls on Mondays and/ or Thursdays 4pm to 6pm, boys on Tuesdays 3.45pm5.45pm; sessions or outside schools and groups: contact club.
The club reminded every gymnast needed to have a new enrolment form completed before participating in the class.
■ The Kaitaia Gymnastic Club gymnasium at 8a Church Rd, Kaitaia, is keen to hear from anyone willing to give some time once or twice a week to assist as a volunteer helper or coach or for jobs around the gym.

Bowls Far North
JUNIOR INTERCLUB. A family affair saw Opononi claim victory at the Bowls Far North Centre interclub title for junior bowlers of 1-5 years experience.
The event on Monday, January 28, was contested at Kaikohe grass green and featured teams from Opononi, Kaikohe and Kerikeri.
After a sweltering hot day of bowls the top placegetters were, Opononi 6 wins +51 differential, 1; Kerikeri One 5, +37, 2; Kaikohe 5, -29, 3; and Kerikeri Two 3, -59 4.
Organisers congratulated the winning team which featured five of the Cassidy family, being mum and dad, Eileen and Fab, and siblings Hoki, Murray, John alongside Arthur Bell, a first year bowler. This team now goes forward to compete at the regional champ of chap finals in Hikurangi on Saturday, May 4, accompanied by manager Paul Fowlie.
