Air fares to Auckland slashed

The Northland Age - - Local News -

Kerikeri to Auckland is one of 41 domestic routes that will soon become a great deal cheaper to fly via Air New Zealand.

The airline’s overhaul of its domestic pricing structure will see fares from Kerikeri and Whanga¯rei to Auckland start at $39, head of regional affairs Reuben Levermore saying lead-in fares would fall by an average of $26.

“Not only is it now more affordable for locals to explore the rest of New Zealand, but these fares will help disperse more of the benefits of tourism across Northland by encouraging even more domestic and international visitors to explore everything the area has to offer,” he said.

Last month the airline announced a partnership with the Bay of Islands Marketing Group and Northland Inc in a campaign aimed at attracting to the region beyond the peak summer months.

That campaign brought back Summer of Safety video stars Joe Naufahu (Game of Thrones) and Jayden Daniels (Shortland Street) to showcase Northland highlights such as mountain biking around Waitangi, kayaking around Haruru Falls, exploring the caves of Motuarohia Island and sampling fish and chips and a beer at Russell’s Duke of Marlborough Hotel.

■ The new fares went on sale yesterday at for travel from March 25.
