Bay girl named in na­tional squad

A Far North player has been named in the wider Net­ball New Zealand sec­ondary schools squad of 22 play­ers for 2019.

Danielle-Rose Dephoff, a Year 13 stu­dent at Bay of Is­lands Col­lege, ad­mit­ted to feel­ing a lit­tle sur­prised about mak­ing the ex­tended squad from 50 play­ers se­lected to at­tend a de­vel­op­ment camp at Cam­bridge last month.

“It felt re­ally good when I was named. I was a lit­tle scared be­fore go­ing to the Jan­uary camp but I re­ally liked it and want to do some­thing like it again,” she said, not­ing she hoped to be in the run­ning when the fi­nal team is an­nounced at the end of April.

Dephoff in­tends to keep im­prov­ing and en­joy­ing her net­ball. She hopes to play in the Beko League in the fu­ture and go all the way to play in the ANZ cham­pi­onship.

“I’m ex­cited about my achieve­ments so far and what my net­ball fu­ture could be.”
