Ban remains

Northland’s total fire ban remains in place despite last week’s rain. Fire and Emergency NZ, which monitors conditions throughout the region on a weekly basis, is warning Northlanders against being lulled into a false sense of security. A spokesman said the risk of fire spreading would be increased by grass growth after the rain, and the benefit would not last long.
