KAITAIA MEN. The Kaitaia men’s golf club tees off a new season this Saturday by holding the Liquor King Tuatua Tournament.

Club captain David Frost hoped to see a good turnout for the longrunning tournament to officially open the 2019 programme. “This is always a fun day which is open to all golfers and non-golfers just looking to have a bit of fun,” Frost said, noting there will be a 10am shotgun start and the names of those who have entered are on the draw in the clubhouse, while post entries will be taken on the day. He also asked players yet to enter to be early and not walk in five minutes before the start of play.

“Over the last 12 months the Kaitaia Golf Club has gone through a number of significant changes, and now members are being faced with the changes to the rules of golf which has set up an interesting year ahead,” Frost remarked. KAITAIA VETS. The Kaitaia vets enjoyed a great start to the new season for their opening day on Monday with 26 members in attendance, including three newcomers.

Singled out in the club report was Neville Masters who, having decided to join the vets’ fraternity this year, struck a hole-in-one on his first shot of the day on the No 9 tee: “Awesome, welcome to vets, Neville, doesn’t get better than that.”

Top scores were men, Bill Steed 31, Bruce McDonald 30, Chris Hollamby 29, John Doolan 28, Dave Russell 26; ladies: Lorna Subritzky 31, Brenda Muller, Marj Duncan 27, Julie Carnachan 26. Also, nearest to the pin: Neville Masters (men), Marj Duncan (ladies), 2s for Bill Logan, Mac Berghan and Elaine Hammond, and, lucky draw: Elaine Hammond. The report concluded by noting, “An enjoyable day out, course is looking great after some rain. Good to be back in swing.”
