Fight-nighters down but not counted out
The Kaitaia Sport and Leisure Trust has regretfully announced that the annual charity boxing event scheduled to be held at Te Ahu Centre on Saturday, April 6, has been cancelled.
The decision was made to pull the plug on the show due to the low numbers of boxing participants as, with seven weeks to go, only three bouts had been confirmed. Coach Lowell Gundry said the side was happy enough to take the win considering the game would have likely ended up being washed out. The only other result from the round known of at edition time saw Maungakaramea 185/9 (39.2 overs) lose to Whangarei Boys’ 2nd XI 187/7 (46.5). Kerikeri will wrap up their 2018/19 summer season this Saturday when they play quality night out for the good people of the Far North. Although this charity boxing event is cancelled, our organising committee are looking to run another high quality event at the Te Ahu Centre later this year.
“The committee wish to thank everyone for their support of our charity boxing event over the last five years and we do look forward to organising more of these events in the future.
