Cabby Johnson scored a trifecta at Houhora on Sunday by winning the Flag competitio­n, taking out the stableford event with a near record 49 points, and winning the birdie draw. Lenny Crewther finished second with 41 points and Louis Kemara continued his recent good form by placing third with 39.

The Wednesday 9-hole haggle saw Ivor Bates coming home first with 21 stableford, followed by Cecilia Daly 20 then Warren Rogers third with 15. In other news, the club’s pennants team continued their good form in the northern zone competitio­n by beating Kaikohe in Ahipara on Saturday.

Kaitaia ladies

Seventeen members of the Kaitaia ladies’ golfing fraternity enjoyed great conditions for their midweek hitout at Ahipara last Wednesday with round 2 of the July Logan tournament on the day’s card.

The top placegette­rs were, B Muller 39, Liz Proctor 39, Fay Patterson 38, Elaine Hammond, Sandy Joe (all scoring) 38, Val Yates, Lynn McCarthny, R Steed 37, with Marj Duncan and Noeleen Robson both finishing on 35.

There is no golf tomorrow but the ladies will gather again the following Wednesday, March 20, where after play they will put on a light luncheon and provide cart rides around the course for some of the former members. Current members were asked to bring a plate for the afternoon.

Kaitaia vets

The turnout of 29 Kaitaia vet golfers enjoyed perfect conditions in their weekly outing to have a hit, some exercise, a chat and a lovely lunch at Ahipara on Monday, March 4. Top scorers were, men: John Doolan 34, Bruce Mcdonald 33, Chris Hollamby 30, Barrie Knightbrid­ge 29, Don McCulloch 29, ladies: Marj Duncan 29, Noeleen Robson 29, Lynn McCarthny and Brenda Muller 25. Also, nearest pin: D McCulloch (men), Elaine Hammond (ladies), with a 2 for N Robson, and the lucky draw went to Julie Carnachan.

There was no vets’ play yesterday due to coring.
