Kidney runs

-

Fun runs in Kaitaia and Kerikeri today for World Kidney Day will help raise awareness of the high burden of kidney disease. Each year, 715 Northlanders use renal services, including 187 people on dialysis. Drinking water, exercising, having a healthy diet and being smokefree can help prevent or delay many types of kidney disease, said Lisa Harvey-Jack, clinical nurse manager of the Whangarei Hospital Renal Unit. Fun run and walk events will take place in areas with renal units to raise awareness and funds. In Kaitaia, the event will start at Kaitaia Hospital, with registration from 4.15pm and the event starting at 5pm. Participants can choose a 3km loop or 6km. In Kerikeri, the fun run and walk will be held at Kerikeri Domain, with registration from 5pm and the event starting at 5.30pm. Entry for both events is $5 for adults or $2 for children, with spot prizes on offer.
