On Friday, March 15, around 30 of Kaitaia College school students took to the streets to support the campaign that was happening nationwide, which was the school strike for climate change.

We all felt compelled to take part in this initiative; one, to show support for other youth and the youth voice but most importantl­y to show support for the Earth which does not have a voice.

In the short span we have been on this earth, we have seen the monumental damage that humans have caused on this Earth and this needs to be addressed or the generation­s to come may not have the same benefits and luxuries of the

Although there was a lot of support out in the streets, there were a few people who did not agree with our stance on the climate change issue telling us to “go back to school”. I

want to let them know that their opinions are heard and respected.

However, what is the purpose of us going back to school to learn and get a job for our future, when there is no future due to climate change? MANAAKITIA HOEPO
