HOUHORA. The Houhora Golf Club was ‘visited by a microlight recently, with the report noting members were left wondering whether “the pilot should be charged green or landing fees!”

To domestic results, and the Sunday club competitio­n was won by Shane Godinet with 42 stableford points, followed by Neil St George 38 then Cecilia Daly 37. The Wednesday 9-hole haggle was won by Cynthia Shailes with 19, then Glenys Rogers and Shaun Daly both 18 but second and third respective­ly on countback.

ALSO, it was noted, Ian Davis was elected president at the AGM on Sunday. KAITAIA VETS. The vets reported a good turnout on Monday, March 18, with 24 members playing and clearly glad to be back after missing a week due to coring on the greens.

Members observed a moment of silence in respect for the Christchur­ch tragedy.

Top scores on the day went to, men: Dave Russell 39 points (over 14 holes which equalled the vets’ record), Simon Yates 34, John Doolan, Rob McCarthny, Bill Steed 32. Travis Tahana 31, ladies: Glenys Rogers 29, Lyn McCarthny 28; also, 2s for Simon Yates, Chris Hollamby, Bruce McDonald. Nearest the Pin went to Simon Yates, nearest the pin: L McCarthny, and, lucky chicken: Terry Shaw.

There were only five ladies playing with two teams of four (all vets) were playing pennants at Waitangi with both teams reportedly doing well.

KAITAIA LADIES. The Kaitaia ladies faction welcomed a new member last Wednesday: Betty Evans a former member of the Muriwai club. Her presence made for a field of 16 ladies out to play Eagles Home Links. Top scores by Val Yates 66 nett, Betty Evans 71, Marj Duncan 72, Elaine Knightbrid­ge 73, Anne Squire, Lorna Subritzky 74, Raewyn Shaw 75, Elaine Hammond, Fay Patterson 77.

After the golf, several ex-members arrived, and enjoyed a drink and a tasty lunch put on by the present players. After a good old chat and a laugh, many of the past members were driven in carts around the course and thought the course looked great, with congratula­tions going to the men who manicure it so well.
