Forget the giant beanstalk . . .

-

Six-year-old Jackson Rogers was noisily confident that he would win Paparore School’s giant pumpkin competition, and in the end it wasn’t even close.

His whopper specimen wasn’t actually weighed at the school gala, but was pronounced the winner when no one could lift it off the ground.

Just getting the pumpkin to the school had been something of a mission, his mum Sarah said. She had rolled it a short distance, until the unfamiliar side-effects of severe anaerobic exercise kicked in. With dad Craig helping it was then dragged to the family ute aboard a tarpaulin, which, to Craig’s delight, now sports a whopping great hole.

Runner-up in the biggest pumpkin category was Jamie Vinac, with Kiarn Beard third, while Kalani Attwood collected the prize for the most impressive specimen.
