Membership boost for 90 Mile Club

-

Calm seas and a bright sunny day again proved less than ideal conditions for the near 70 anglers taking part in a fishing contest on 90 Mile Beach last month.

Despite this, the field of 61 members and six visitors eventually reeled in a relatively respectable tally of 44 snapper, 91 kahawai and 16 trevally over a tide high at 12.30pm in the Northland Auctions Field Day event on Sunday, March 19.

The heaviest snapper of the day to earn first prize was Cody Lloyd’s 6.47kg fish, second place for heaviest trevally was Moira Rogers with an “impressive” 6.10kg specimen, while third place for heaviest kahawai went to Phil Kake with 2.36kg,.

Others to make the leaderboard were, Angela Elliot 5.60kg snapper 4, Dave Lloyd 3.92kg 5, Gareth McKenzie 2.33kg kahawai 6, Matt Becker 5.33kg snapper 7, Steve Beckett 3.80kg trevally 8, Pete Watson 2.31kg kahawai 9, Skarn Hokai 4.56kg snapper 10.

Junior Oscar Parlour took out the haggle set at a 1.81kg trevally with a 1.67kg trevally and also the junior prize with a 3.56kg snapper.

Event spokesman Jack Rogers noted the club was pleased to see membership growing with every field day, with seven new registrations at this last field day alone. On behalf of the organising 90 Mile Beach Surfcasting Club, he also thanked Brad and Tanya for their ongoing support of the event each year.

“It is much appreciated.”
