Apology owed
The Catalina Preservation Society owes the people of the Far North an apology. Not me! I have done my dash of apologising to the crowd that turned up to see this iconic aircraft.
It was difficult to explain why the Catalina couldn’t make it when so many others did.
Aircraft came from Hamilton, Mercer, Parakai, Whitianga, Whanga¯rei, and flew all around Northland on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There was no attempt to make an alternative plan.
The Northland Age, Northern Advocate and the local radio stations gave us good media coverage, and consequently carloads of locals turned up.
