No excuse not to be fit

-

It might be difficult for anyone to come up with an excuse for not being it, but it is especially problematic in Kaikohe, where Kaikohe Community Fitness, 5:30pm every Wednesday at Lindvart Park (or the Northland College gym if it’s raining) is taking hold.

Kaikohe Community Fitness was launched at the beginning of the year in a bid to promote fitness, health and wellbeing in and around the town.

The idea was to provide fitness sessions that were fun, free, and catered for all starting levels.

It began with four people who wanted to get active after Christmas, but it has grown, with more than 60 turning up in recent weeks.

The sessions are coached by two locals, Jade Makiri and local police officer Dylan Robinson, both of whom are qualified crossfit trainers, who demonstrate the workout movements before coaching participants through the workout itself.

Dylan said Team No Excuses was built on the philosophy that there were no good reasons not to get started. I can’t afford it? It’s free. I haven’t got time? It’s an hour, 4 per cent of anyone’s day. I haven’t got anyone to have the kids? Take them — everyone else does.

I don’t know what I have to do? The coaches will fix that.

I’m not fit enough? You’re not going to get fitter by not doing it. I don’t know anyone? You soon will — or take a friend with you.

“Come along and see if it’s a good fit for you,” he added.

“All anyone needs to bring is a water bottle and be prepared to have some fun. We would love to see you any Wednesday, or message us for more details.”
