The Northland Age

Good turnout for last event of season

-

The Kaitaia croquet fraternity was able to make it quite an occasion for the last all-day tournament of the summer programme earlier this month thanks to players from most Northland clubs turning up and entering in the day with their own selected partners.

Event spokeswoman Lyn Rupapera said the Farm Source and Ray White tournament on Friday, April 5, was played in great spirit.

“Spectacular shots were made with great banter and there was very little between winning and losing. In fact, there was only one hoop difference between first and second place and one between second and third, with third being shared after both players ended up with identical scores for and against.”

On behalf of organisers, she gave a big thank you to Jack, the club’s groundsman, for his well presented lawns and the sponsors for their generous support, with special praise going out to all the participating clubs, “as that’s what makes for croquet”.
