The Kareponia speed sign will be back

-

The New Zealand Transport Agency confirmed last week that it planned to re-erect the electronic speed sign on State Highway 10 at Kareponia that was cut from its pole shortly after it was installed.

First, it needed to see how much damage had been done and what could be salvaged.

Two signs were erected, at a cost of $34,000, one west of Kareponia Hill and the other just east of the summit, as a to encourage motorists to slow down over a 1.5km stretch of highway. The speed limit throughout is 100km/h.

They were a temporary measure, spokesman Darryl Walker said, until a speed management review between Awanui and Kaingaroa was completed. Public engagement on that would start later this year.
