Juniors go fish

Following on from another successful One Base tournament, the Houhora Big Game and Sports Fishing Club advised it has introduced a a new format for its annual junior fishing tournament. That event will now be run throughout the entire month of April before culminatin­g in a final prizegivin­g with a pirate theme from 5pm on Saturday, April 27. Categories are snapper, trevally, kahawai and kingfish with prizes for heaviest to 10th heaviest as well as an average weight prize in each species and overall (making for a total of five average weight prizes).

There are also prizes for heaviest billfish and tuna plus any gamefish tagged and released. Anglers are able to fish as many times as they like from land, sea or kayak, with the time frame being from 5am on April 1 to 3pm on April 27. The club will also present the new Spirit Of Fishing Trophy for most meritoriou­s angling achievemen­t. Organisers expressed their appreciati­on to the myriad sponsors for being so supportive and generous for this tournament, with every competitor expected to get a gift.
