Nice dog — not!
A police officer was attacked by a dog at an address in Kaitaia last week.
Police went to the address in response to a possible family harm incident, and were leaving, satisfied that nothing was seriously amiss, when the woman insisted on introducing them to her dog. She had it by the collar, but it became aggressive, and she was unable to hold it, a police spokesman said.
The officers twice used pepper spray to subdue the animal, the dog’s owners also being hit with the spray, inadvertently, before the officer was bitten on one wrist.
The wound was treated at Kaitaia Hospital, followed by a tetanus injection, while the incident was reported to the Far North District Council’s animal control staff.
