Sev­eral North­land play­ers fea­ture in the new-look 2019 Black Ferns squad an­nounced ear­lier this week in­clud­ing Harono Te Iringa, one of seven new caps in the side. Te Iringa is one of sev­eral play­ers from the Coun­ties Manukau pro­vin­cial team in the Ferns side. Other North­landers from the Coun­ties Manukau team named in the Ferns squad in­clude Leilani Perese, (Kaitaia Col­lege teacher) Te Kura Ngata-Aerenga­mate and Ari­hi­ana Marino-Tauhinu. The Black Ferns’ in­ter­na­tional test sea­son starts next month with the Women’s Rugby Su­per Series 2019 in San Diego when they will face Canada (June 29), hosts USA (July 3), France (July 7) and Eng­land (July 15). They then re­turn home to play Aus­tralia in Perth on Au­gust 10 and Eden Park on Au­gust 17; both games cur­tain-rais­ing the All Blacks vs Wal­la­bies tests.
