HUMANS OF KAITAIA

sister. She loves drawing, decorating, and she loves all sorts of stationery. Then my little sister, who likes to play everything and eat all of the feijoas off our tree. Then there are all my cousins too; there are four of them, plus the five of us, that’s nine kids! I share a room with my sister. It’s a crazy, loud house, but I do love them all.

Aunty teaches me life skills like cleaning and how to take care of myself. She helps me stay well.

This year I’ve been to Starship Hospital in Auckland for treatment. It’s a really cool place. I always make new friends. I can read books, watch TV, play with all the toys, go to the park. We even take cooking classes. I made Anzac biscuits. On my birthday I asked my doctor if I was allowed out for the day, and my big sister took me to the movies.

When I was in Auckland I couldn’t wait to get back to my family. They really care about me, we love each other and we look after each other. I feel okay now, like a normal person, but one day I could be gone.

My favourite thing to do is to create stuff. If I had Lego right now I could make anything I could imagine. I’m creative, I like painting, drawing, colouring… all that sort of thing.

I try to be a kind person, to not get too angry, to be positive and calm, and be myself. Sometimes I lie in bed and think of all the good things I can do for people. I like helping people.
