The Northland Age

Life in a loving, loud house

- By Alex Pitman

Iwas born in 2007, and have lived in Whanga¯ rei, Auckland and Kaitaia. I am a boy with ADHD, and in 2018 I was diagnosed with T-cell leukaemia. I live with my Aunty Nelly. She’s kind and lovely. My Uncle Logan works on the new Taipa bridge. Before I had cancer he would take me fishing, and I enjoyed that. He would tell me to be in a rugby team, or join a sport, but I’m not really into that.

My siblings also live with me,

my 16-year-old sister — she wants to go into the Navy — my 13-year-old sister, who goes to Kaitaia College — when she grows up she wants to be a lawyer. She is quite bossy and all of that, but she’s really on to it. Sometimes she’s a rat bag.

Then there’s my 10-year-old
