Re your editorial ‘The illusion of clout’ (May 14).

I have said in the past and now say again, the problem facing Kaitaia and the Far North is community support.

People who believe that local and central governments are concerned about what is happening in our area are dreaming. Politics is all about looking after one’s own agenda, not what’s good for the people or the country.

How sad for Kaitaia and its communities if the Switzer Home closes, we lose our doctors, hospital etc. We have already lost a lot, and I believe there is more to follow.

If we do not speak up and unite on very important issues we are going to be trampled into the ground, further than we are today, as time goes by. Do we not owe
