Mud and Paint at Rawene

-

Strange and beautiful artworks based on relationships with nature and India are featured in the latest exhibition at No 1 Parnell gallery in Rawene.

Judith Blade's ‘Suggestions for Mud and Paint: Strange and beautiful art pieces for a divergent mind’ will remain on display until June 11.

Judith said her twohectare forest block in the Hokianga had provided much of the inspiration for recent works highlighting her extensive relationship with plants and animals, while she had also drawn upon a decade-long relationship with India, including three years living there.

Her affinity with traditional tribal communities is also portrayed in layers of colour and patterns in her abstract paintings and clay works.

Meanwhile the No 1 Parnell gallery has also welcomed Mark Carey, one of the two winners of last year’s Hokianga Book Festival and Essay Award, to its team of volunteers. Go to www.no1parnell.weebly.com for more information.
