 ??  ?? Mayor John Carter was the first to congratula­te Harikrishn­an Bhaskaran Pillai on his new status as a New Zealand citizen at Te Ahu in Kaitaia last week. Mr Bhaskaran Pillai, now living in Kaikohe, was one of 17 people from nine countries who swore, by oath or affirmatio­n, to be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of New Zealand, her heirs and successors, according to law, to faithfully observe the laws of New Zealand and fulfil their duties as a New Zealand citizen, Mr Carter telling them they had chosen to make their homes in the best part of the best country in the world.
