World famous tenor to perform in Kaitaia

-

The internationally acclaimed Welsh tenor, Paul Preston, is to appear in Kaitaia on June 21 at the 15th anniversary Yugoslav Cabaret Ball. He is regarded as being among the top tenors in the world.

Mr. Preston, who is 54 years of age, is a former Black and White Minstrel star, and has appeared with such famed personalities as Dean Martin, Al Jolson, Nelson Eddy, Laurel and Hardy and Max Bygraves, to name but a few.

He has been in show business for 40 years, and devotes much time to entertaining elderly people and spastic children. He is also a personal friend of Mr. and Mrs. Vinko Vegar of Kaitaia.

Because of illness, Mr. Preston is unable to fly, and so the Yugoslav Cultural Club are to personally transport him and his sound equipment, worth $4000, to Kaitaia for his special performance.

To give an indication of Mr. Preston’s status in the entertainment world, he recently performed at a Wellington nightclub for a fee of $500, and with all expenses paid; this was just for two appearances.
