Rarawa vs Awanui

-

Awanui had a handy lead of 11 points to nil at the interval, playing with the wind at their backs, but had to withstand a pretty hectic second half recovery by Rarawa before they could hurry to town to see how their arch rivals Kaitaia had fared.

Awanui’s fast young winger, Mate Radich, dashed over for two tries, whilst Paul Reihana kicked two penalties and a conversion.

Buddy Nathan, in true captain’s style, led the revival during the second half with a fine try, and later the diminutive Duddie Robson slipped over to equalize the try-scoring. Nathan narrowly missed both conversions and a penalty goal that may have really had Awanui worried, but as Buddy Nathan said “We cannot even blame the referee, Graham Stanaway for our loss. He was very good really.”
