More than 1000 Year 9 stu­dents across North­land had no one to teach them on Tuesday as teach­ers be­gan a planned month­long se­ries of rolling strikes. The PPTA an­nounced last week that mem­bers would take “ros­ter­ing home ac­tion,” re­fus­ing to teach cer­tain year groups on par­tic­u­lar days, over four weeks, which is sched­uled to af­fect Year 10 stu­dents on Tuesday, Year 11 on June 25 and Year 12 on July 12. Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion deputy sec­re­tary Ellen Mac­Gre­gor-Reid said given that ac­tion would not af­fect teach­ers’ school day, they would con­tinue to be paid.
