The Northland Age

From the shower to the stage

- By Kees Cherrington

I like growing up in Kaitaia and Awanui because everyone knows everyone. I’ll just be walking down the road and see someone and we yell out: ‘Kia ora!’ at the same time.

I like singing and learning to play instruments. Music makes me happy and excited. I want to sing in the shower all the time. I think it makes my mum crazy because I sing too much all the time.

Participating in Far North’s Got Talent was a highlight in my life that I will treasure forever. That feeling of singing and playing my instrument in front of hundreds of people was amazing. I could see my Baba and my family in the crowd smiling at me. Baba came up and sang with me when I won second place. I was really shocked that I had placed in the top three.

I want to have that feeling all the time — making people smile, happy and proud of me. And to achieve something like that again would be so awesome.
