I am intrigued by your correspondent K McNaughton’s mathematical approach to hatred (‘Useful fools,’ May 21), when he wrote, among other statistics, that “a full 67 per cent of Mohammed’s biography is devoted to destroying us.” However, he dodged any attempt at estimating the probability of my Moslem colleague M’s getting pregnant, writing only that “accidental conjunctions of contingencies do not prove causality.”
I think what he meant was that her pregnancy was mere coincidence and nothing to do with a Christian prayer.
I like coincidence. It can be evaluated mathematically.
