Fond farewell for departing members at Church Rd

-

The Church Road Bowling Club recently bade a fond but sad farewell to a trio of very popular and resourceful members.

John and Anita Richardson, who have contributed so much over the last three years, are leaving Kaitaia later this year for a new life in Te Kauwhata. While the club wished them every happiness, it was also acknowledged the pair will be sadly missed for their expertise and generosity.

Delivering a double blow was the news that John Fox-Champkins will be shortly returning to England permanently, having given up on the New Zealand Immigration Department ever granting him permanent residence in the country.

For the 2018/19 season, John gave up much of his time to help run the club and did a sterling job as match convener.

The club awarded him a special trophy for his contribution to the wellbeing and management of the club.

The trio were officially farewelled at the club’s AGM on Sunday, May 26, which was held after a shared lunch and the end-of-season prizegiving, where the new committee was appointed.

Treasurer: Shirley Crabtree, secretary: Paul Watkins, board: Liz Anderson, Raemond Baucke, Shirley Young and Tessa Pont, match conveners: L Anderson and David Riddle.

It was decided to alter the club’s constitution to delete the necessity for a president and vice president, and to elect a chairperson at the next meeting of the new board, with it being noted the chairperson does not necessarily need to be a member of the club.

Elsewhere, the club advised it was keenly looking for new members and associate members, while non-bowlers who would like to ‘have a go’ will be made welcome every Thursday from 10am, when tuition will be available. “The club is friendly and new members will soon feel at home here.

“So don’t sit at home thinking about it, phone a board member and find out how welcoming this club can be,” the club report encouraged.

Annual membership subs for the 2019/20 season have been set as full membership $60, junior $30, social $20 and associate $10; while the premises are also available to hire on a casual and/ or regular basis. For more information contact Pat Watkins on 408-0730.
