No moral high ground
As one who has written previously about the murder we call abortion, I might be one of the men to whom your letter writer, Barbara Sobey, is referring as “self-righteous and outraged,” and, she implies, unable to “exercise self-control” in regard to our sexual appetite (Thank you Ma‘am, letters June 11).
Outraged I certainly am that our political leaders have chosen to act in the fashion of the Nazis by declaring some citizens inconvenient and not worthy to live, legalising and funding abortions. Why is not everyone outraged, I want to know.
Self-righteous? I think not. There is no moral high ground here. Everyone knows that abortion deliberately kills a child. There is no moral ground, high or low, which permits that.
As for us justifying our “overwhelming desire for pleasure by blaming females,” I’m struggling to follow. But I am very confident that she would find that all the males whose
letters condemning abortion she has read do exercise self-control.
Miss Sobey’s letter indicates that she has had some unfortunate sexual relationships. That is most regrettable. But it is foolish and quite wrong to judge all men by those who have mistreated her. And it more than just wrong, it is totally unacceptable, to kill children because of the behaviour of their fathers.

There is all the difference in the world between the two situations, and if Ken Orr is unable to understand this difference, most certainly the vast majority of your readers will; his failure of comprehension will not be sufficient to prevent the passing of this legislation.
