The Northland Age

An inevitable tangle

-

Genealogies may be boring but to others they become a very useful tool. For example, in scripture we can follow these genealogies.

From the time of Adam and Eve to the birth of Christ is about 4000 years. From the birth of Christ to the present time we have about 2019 years, hence the dates on our calendars. Therefore, from creation to the present time we are given just over 6000 years.

Ross Forbes (Conspiratorial nonsense, June 11) has given us a “420,000-year record of ice core data,” and that “the first interglacial period was exceptionally long — 28,000 years, compared to the 42,000 years recorded so far on the present one.”

As all Scripture is inspired by God (all, not some: see 2 Timothy 3:16), we can't

believe any of this data Ross has given us from regurgitated studies. I can hear a stampede of feet now of people running to their computers to refute the above.

Before we became an atheist nation, many held the Bible in the highest esteem. so much so that in our courts of law we were made to swear an oath on the Bible. Great minds of the past, such as Abraham LIncoln, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Dwight Eisenhower, to name a few, were all fervent believers. because some scientists no longer believe the scriptures they get themselves into an inevitable tangle.

Take for instance the Grand Canyon. They estimate its age in millions of years using the assumption that it was the Colorado River that carved it out. Starting with a wrong assumption, they come up with a wrong answer. They have not factored in the Great Flood of Noah, which laid down sediment as it rose, and then, as the waters receded from the earth, they carved out the Grand Canyon in a very short time.

Ross goes on to say that it was “environmental conditions that allowed humankind to evolve in the first place.” You may have evolved from an ape, Ross, but as for myself, I prefer the Genesis account of creation. Why do we still have apes today, and why haven't they evolved?

On Friday June 21, at 7pm at Virtue Church Kaitaia, we have Mark James, from Creation Ministries, speaking on ‘Science and the Bible: Conflict or Confirmation?’ It would be worth anyone's while to come along and listen.

Kaitaia On watching the TV1 News on Wednesday I was unable to miss seeing the long snouts of greedy hogs trampling the weak, sick and elderly in their attempts to have first go at the goodies in the trough.

Funny how $250 per week would fill their gut and all other issues would be resolved. Yes, it is very funny how other issues are used as leverage to justify nothing other than human greed.

What makes teachers and other groups believe they are so much more important than others?

How great were the headmasters and teachers in my school days, with one teacher teaching Primer 1 to 4, a teacher for Standard 1 to 3 and the headmaster Standards 4, 5 and 6, as well as his duties as principal.

These teachers had devotion, compassion and the ability to teach many subjects for different age groups in their classrooms, as well as sports and swimming, being nurse, doctor, counsellors and career advisers.

Many of the children they taught ended up building their own businesses, even some multimillion-dollar empires, and top farms, still around today, which have been handed down, without secondary or university education.

Teachers of my day chose to improve the lives of children to lift them out of poverty, improve their health and housing. They had compassion for those in need, and believe me there was great need after World War I, the Depression years and World War II.

Sadly there are now greedy hogs with their snouts in the trough, so full of their own selfishness, starting with politicians, CEOs, teachers, nurses, lawyers, developers, driving people into poverty, denying hospital services, housing, care for the aged.

Greed is taking its toll on many families in today’s world which teachers and others of the past devoted their lives to build, a better society for all.

The world is changing fast, just as the Bible has advised — people’s love for one another shall be overtaken by human desires as they become lovers of money and themselves.

How true are the words written in the Bible.

The solution is to give everyone a $50,000 a year liveable wage, including our MPs, with an equal yearly inflation increase. Fifty thousand dollars appears to be a good income, as opposed to the single Super of around $21,000 and minimum hourly rate around $16. JOHN BASSETT
